Definition of CCD

CCD
1.  An acronym for charge-coupled device. Used in digital copiers. The unit that optically scans the reflected image of the original document and converts it to digital signals for the microprocessor. In a fax machine using conventional lens and mirrors, it is the device which converts the optical image into electrical signals to send to the modem.
