1.  The ability of one fax unit to communicate with another.

Pin-compatible device, such as a logic integrated circuit (IC), memory module or microprocessor, is one that has the same functions assigned to the same particular pins. Hardware compatibility can refer to the compatibility that computer hardware components have with a particular CPU architecture, bus, motherboard or operating system.
