Glossary PLA

Definition of PLA

PLA
1.  Polylactic acid. A plant-based filament material used in 3D printing. PLA is made from renewable natural resources such as corn starch and sugar cane derivates that meet food-grade and biodegradability standards. It is more environmentally friendly than petrochemical-based alternatives (such as ABS).
More Information:
PLA does not require a heated bed but greatly benefits from the use of one. PLA adheres easily to a variety of surfaces, and finer detail is possible on a well-calibrated machine. However, PLA is a more brittle filament material and can also be prone to curling of corners and overhangs.
