Definition of separation pad

separation pad
1.  In a multi-sheet tray in a copier or printer, it is a stationary pad used to push back on the stack of paper to allow only one sheet to be fed at a time.
More Information:
The purpose of a separation pad is to introduce friction and separate the top sheet of paper from the remainder of the stack. This prevents multiple sheets of paper from being fed into the machine at one time.
