Glossary separation roller

Definition of separation roller

separation roller
1.  In a multi-sheet tray in a copier or printer, it is the roller used to push back on the stack of paper to allow only one sheet to be fed at a time.
More Information:
A separation roller, also known as a reverse roller, retard roller or break roller, is used to separate pages when multiple sheets are fed into a printer or copier. These rollers are found in sections that feed blank paper from paper trays, cassettes or paper decks, as well as in document feeders to separate multiple original documents when being copied or scanned. Some manufacturers, such as Canon, use the term separation roller to indicate a feed roller that is located above a separation pad.
